8 examinations that a woman should undergo
If we feel good, nothing bothers us, we don’t think about doctors. Meanwhile, the disease can develop imperceptibly, and when its obvious symptoms appear, it will be difficult, and sometimes impossible, to cope with the pathology. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to undergo preventive examinations by specialists and regularly take tests. By the way, such planned visits to the doctor are one of the indicators of a human health culture, which is an integral part of the general culture.
Doctors recommend that women regularly undergo eight preventive examinations and diagnostic tests.
1. Examination of a gynecologist
Many gynecological diseases are asymptomatic for a long period. And their consequences and complications can be very serious. This is erosion, infertility, cancer.
You should regularly visit a gynecologist with the onset of sexual activity: up to 30 years – once a year, then – twice a year. Of course, for any violations, problems, you need to go to the gynecologist, without delaying or waiting for the scheduled visit time. It is advisable to consult a doctor if you have changed your sexual partner.
2. Pap test, or cytological smear
A cytological smear is taken during a routine examination of a gynecologist. This is a study of epithelium taken from the cervix, which allows early detection of cervical cancer – one of the most common tumors in women. Cervical cancer is symptomatic only when multiple metastases have formed. At this stage, the chances of a successful cure are quite small.
Cytological smear should be taken annually.
Mammography is an examination of the mammary glands in order to identify their diseases, including neoplasms. There are several types of mammography: computer (digital), ultrasound, magnetic resonance. But most often used is an x-ray examination of the mammary glands. By frequency, malignant breast tumors occupy the first place among female oncology. In the early stages, this type of cancer is treated quite successfully, in advanced cases, with the formation of metastases, the prognosis is disappointing. Mammography makes it possible to detect changes in the gland two years before the onset of symptoms of the tumor.
This procedure is painless, radiation exposure is small and can not cause harm. Women after forty need to have a mammogram performed annually.
Colonoscopy – a study of the colon – allows you to identify many pathologies, including tumors. Moreover, this diagnostic study can be both therapeutic. So, the doctor during the procedure can remove polyps or small tumors, and then subsequently you will not have to do another operation. This is not to be said to be a pleasant study, but in many medical centers it can be done under anesthesia.
Colonoscopy is recommended for every woman after 40 years of age once every five years.
5. Visit to a dermatologist
Skin is a natural barrier to various harmful effects. It is she who takes the first blow of external adverse factors. Therefore, the skin condition should be monitored very carefully, especially since over the years the risk of developing malignant tumors or malignancy of benign lesions on the skin, birthmarks, increases.
Of course, with any changes in moles, the appearance of suspicious formations, you should consult a doctor. But a layman can easily miss the specific symptoms of the disease, so it is advisable to undergo an examination by a dermatologist every year.
6. Eye examination
Usually, only those who already have some kind of eye problems are checked regularly. But in fact, everyone needs to visit an ophthalmologist for preventive purposes. Indeed, today our eyes experience tremendous stress when working on a computer, the constant use of tablets and smartphones. It is not surprising that visual acuity decreases already at a young age, various visual disturbances occur, and cataracts and glaucoma are diagnosed much earlier.
An ophthalmologist needs to be examined at least once every 2 years, but those who use glasses should do this annually.
7. Analysis of thyroid hormones
The thyroid gland affects the activity of almost all body systems, so any malfunctions in its work affect the state of health. Malfunctions of the thyroid gland are a common occurrence in women, especially after 50 years. Manifestations of these disorders, such as a constant feeling of fatigue, sudden fluctuations in weight, sweating, dry skin, are characteristic of many pathologies. To find out that the true cause of malaise lies in the violation of the thyroid gland, it is possible by tests for hormones. They must be handed over once a year and a half.
8. Determination of blood glucose and cholesterol
Two other very important studies. Monitoring sugar levels will help to take timely measures in case of violation of carbohydrate metabolism in order to prevent the development of diabetes mellitus.
