Diseases masked by cosmetic imperfections
Today, there are many cosmetics on sale that can be used to easily hide cosmetic imperfections: pimples and blackheads, wrinkles and ugly spots, uneven skin and gray complexion. Moreover, in the salons you can turn to the services of a professional makeup artist, who will not only remove all skin defects, but also will change you beyond recognition.
However, to mask a flaw does not mean to get rid of it. Moreover, some cosmetic defects may indicate hidden diseases. And we must not hide them, but find out what caused them.
Bags under the eyes
Ugly bags under the eyes are formed for several reasons. This may be an increase in fiber due to age-related changes or a genetic predisposition. But most often edema causes fluid retention. Water lingers in tissues with excessive enthusiasm for pickles, alcohol, and strong ultraviolet radiation. Such edema, as a rule, occurs in the morning, but disappears during the day.
But in some cases, edema caused by water retention indicates pathological processes in the body.
Kidney disease. If bags under the eyes form in a few hours and do not pass, they are accompanied by general malaise and weakness, fever, lower back pain, possibly this is a violation of the kidneys. This often happens after cystitis, tonsillitis, SARS.
Heart failure. For this pathological condition, edema under the eyes is also characteristic, but unlike kidney diseases, cardiac edema develops gradually and begins from the legs, “rising” up. Symptoms of heart failure are also shortness of breath, palpitations, pain in the heart.
Conjunctivitis. Edematous red itchy eyes are signs of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye. Conjunctivitis may be allergic. It is also possible infection of the eyes with bacteria, irritation caused by dust, smoke, gassed air.
Swelling of the eyes can also occur due to other diseases: SARS, sinusitis, etc.
Most often, the skin glistens when the sebaceous glands produce an excessive amount of sebum. This feature is characteristic of the skin of adolescents during puberty, and this is due to hormonal changes. Hormonal fluctuations explain sebaceous shiny skin in women in the second phase of the cycle, during menopause or after stopping oral contraceptives.
Shiny skin can also speak of more serious problems in the body.
Endocrine Disorders Hormonal imbalance that causes skin shine can be caused by various pathologies. In women, these are malignant and benign neoplasms of the ovaries, uterus, cervix, disorder of the hormonal function of the ovaries. Men can suffer from greasy skin on their faces with elevated levels of testosterone, which, in turn, is the result of diseases of the endocrine system or the use of hormonal drugs.
Liver disease. In this case, the skin on the forehead and in the area of the nasolabial folds often becomes oily and shiny.
Rare and short eyelashes
This cosmetic flaw may well be a variant of the norm and is determined by heredity. Alas, not everyone endowed nature with long, thick eyelashes. In this case, decorative cosmetics and eyelash extensions will come in handy. But sometimes eyelashes begin to fall out intensively and from fluffy and strong turn into rare and weak. New eye cosmetics may be to blame for this – then it is better to abandon them. If you have not changed makeup, and eyelashes fall out intensely, this is an alarming sign. Perhaps pathological changes occur in the body.
Demodecosis This skin disease causes a tick of the genus Demodex (Acne zheleznitsa). It lives in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles on the skin of the face, and especially on the skin of the eyelids. This tick can be found in any person. But the disease develops when the body is weakened by chronic diseases, severe fatigue, stress. In this case, the tick is activated, and the products of its vital activity cause demodicosis symptoms – itchy eyes, scales at the roots of the eyelashes, inflammation of the follicles, which leads to eyelash loss.
Hypothyroidism As noted above, with a lack of thyroid hormones, the hair begins to fall out. The pathology and eyelashes with eyebrows are affected, however, this happens when the disease is already severely launched.
In addition, eyelashes can fall out with inflammatory diseases of the eyes and eyelids, a significant lack of vitamins of groups B and A. But in these cases, rare eyelashes are only one of the minor symptoms of the pathology, which cannot be overlooked.
Cosmetic defect or illness?
There are other signs of possible pathologies that are visible on the face.
Change in color of the protein of the eye (sclera). If the whites of the eyes turn yellow, they speak of jaundice, one of the symptoms of liver dysfunction.
